Good to know
Is this tool private?
Yes. Your images are processed on your device and never sent to our servers. For AI tools, your browser downloads model files from imgpico when needed.
Why will my computer not open HEIC files?
HEIC is the format Apple devices save photos in. Windows, Android and every browser except Safari need extra software to read it, which is why sharing an iPhone photo often fails. JPG opens everywhere.
Are my photos uploaded to convert them?
No. Safari reads HEIC on its own. Every other browser loads a decoder of about 2 MB from imgpico once and then decodes on your device. The photo itself is never sent anywhere.
Does converting lose quality?
HEIC and JPG are both lossy, so the photo is re-encoded once. At 90% the difference is hard to see. The JPG is usually larger than the HEIC original, because HEIC compresses more efficiently at the same quality.
What happens to Live Photos and EXIF data?
The still image is converted; the short video of a Live Photo is not kept. The JPG contains the pixels only, so camera info, date and GPS are dropped. Use Edit Metadata afterwards if you want to write those fields back.
